You know, for me, and probably you, Middle School was tough enough, what with the onset of puberty, peer pressures and the introduction of Algebra into our lives... Pinebox, TX Middle School takes those pressures and ramps them up into a cool, spooky, supernatural adventure.  You get to roleplay a middle school kid trying to survive and stop the evil trying to take over your town.  Look, it's basically a role-playing version of Stranger Things.  Here's the official description:

You're young and adventurous, and no matter what adults say the monsters are real. Welcome to Pinebox, Texas. This setting is meant to evoke the frightening adventures of staples like Stranger Things, Goosebumps, The Goonies, and It! Evil is afoot, and it's up to a group of scrappy young kids to set things right. But this isn't a nostalgic trip back in time: modern technology and modern problems are in the mix to complicate the balance between family, school, and horror.

The 210-page, hardcover Pinebox Middle School core book offers everything you need to create your own starting 6th grader, complete with new Hindrances, Edges, and even a section for Family Generation so you know who you need to con to get a ride to the site of your next ghost hunt. There are rules getting around Pinebox and surrounding Golan County as a kid with little more than your trusty bike, navigating the strange unreliability of cell phone signals in rural Texas, using “soft weapons” such as water guns and firecrackers to distract and disrupt your opponents, and even for dabbling in the arcane via dangerous but powerful ritual magic.

There’s an Adventure Generator to help create your own scenarios for the heroes to play through. The Descent into the Inferno Plot Point Campaign takes the kids from 6th grade all the way through 8th in the pursuit of a dangerous mastermind and his strange, undead abominations that threaten to unleash an army of horrors on Earth. Also included is a full curriculum of Savage Tales that can be used as part of your own saga, or in conjunction with the Plot Point Campaign to add more drama to the group’s experience.

Included in the Boxed Set: Pinebox Middle School core book. Set of 12 Archetype Cards. Pinebox/Golan County Poster Map. Pawn Set. GM Screen & 32-page Adventure. Set of Seven Dice + Wild Die. Set of 25 Bennies. 18 Ally and Adversary Cards. Pinebox Middle School requires the Savage Worlds Adventure Edition core rules to play.

Diverse, hilarious, and fun
Format: Paperback
This was soooo fun, and what it lacked in patchy storytelling made up for in its incredible art and lovable characters. The main character is latina, fat, and queer, the love interest is black and queer (yes, it's f/f romance!), and the prominent side character is non-binary, queer, and literally a mix of kenji and kuzco from the emporer's new groove (they were SO sweet but funny and definitely my favorite part of the book). Not to mention all of these characters are mythological creatures! I loved reading the characters' interactions because the banter was so cute and fun, both platonic and romanticly. The action began to get a bit confusing toward the end and I wish it was explained better what was happening, but I loved the world building and the characters' relationships with each other so I'm definitely continuing this series.

the art is great and really helps to set the scene of this ...
Format: Paperback
It's cute book. the art is great and really helps to set the scene of this magical world. I took issue with the characters and the narrative. The main character is a werewolf who is very self conscious about it but it's never really clear since apparently, there are not only plenty of werewolves but also people who can shift into other animals. Her best friend is a centaur who I found a little grating with his "lol XD so random" personality. I didn't find much fault with the girlfriend character but I didn't understand their relationship. the main character starts the book having had one date with her girlfriend they seem to have some issues (over what I thought was very minor things) and decide at the end of the book to go to couple's therapy to solve them but like, they weren't together for that. I assume maybe a month has passed, just break up. I just didn't understand that. The narrative itself didn't seem tight. One character has cryptic visions that didn't really seem to pan out or really have the gravity she seemed to put to them. there is a meta narrative involving a book the main character likes and the events in that book mirror the events in the comic but I didn't really see it that strongly and it seemed to have little use. The main conflict seems to be solved very quickly and with little fanfare. All in all, it's not a bad book. i just found it a bit weak. It's not amazing, nor above average. But it's also not garbage or terrible. It's won't have the greatest of appeal but I'm not upset I bought it and it's not a waste of time. However, I wouldn't read any additional work of this series.

Obsessed
Format: Kindle
I really hope there will be more of this comic coming soon. It was so well thought out. The colors were incredible. The fluidity of every character was great. Enjoyed this so very much.
