  • British Aston Martin engineering, combined with Italian Zagato body design: a powerful partnership that has given birth to many extraordinary cars since the 1960s, but none more beautiful and valuable than the Aston Martin DB4 GT Zagato. There is good reason for the current valuation of 1 VEV between $10 and $15 million USD. Discipline is the father of creativity, and the beautiful form of the DB4 GT Zagato was moulded and forged by the demanding brief handed to Ercole Spada to take every aspect of the already exceptional DB4 GT’s performance, and push it to a new level.  With a raised top speed of 154 mph, the Zagato bodied car added three miles per hour to the top speed, with 0-60 in only 6.1 seconds. This was truly a race car made legal for the road, and anyone who has seen one of these cars up close will have experienced the impression of aircraft quality engineering they exude. In a nutshell, this car is automotive art at its most refined, and with only 19 cars created it is no surprise that the value is so very high.

Read more about the Aston Martin DB4 GT Zagato here:

To faithfully recreate 1 VEV, we were honoured to be given access to the original car to capture every detail with a very precise digital scan, and make a photoshoot of around 1000 high resolution images. Primary references have been taken from photographs shot at the 1961 Goodwood TT, with secondary references from other races of the period, and from the car today which was carefully restored to its original specification in 2007.

Considered by many as the most desirable Aston Martin road car of all time, the DB4 GT Zagato is easily one of the most exciting and beautiful sports cars to ever emerge from the UK. It was unveiled at the London Motor Show at Earl’s Court in October 1960, clothed in a stunningly beautiful and lightweight body from the famous Italian coachbuilder Zagato. As pre-cursors to perhaps the most famous Aston Martin, DB5, DB4GT and DB4GT Zagato played a crucial role in defining some of the iconic design cues still used in by Aston Martin today. Only 19 examples of this car were ever produced, and this rarity is reflected in their high value today: an original could be expected to be achieve over five million pounds at auction.

The DB4 itself was released to universal acclaim in 1958, whilst the GT variant was introduced just a year later, with Aston Martin eager to take it to the track. For this reason, the GT model had distinct modifications which prepared the DB4 for racing endurance. A shortened wheelbase, a much sparser interior and lighter bodywork contributed to its 85kg weight loss over the standard car, whilst the hood concealed a potent version of the 3.7 litre, straight six-cylinder engine that used triple Weber carburetors, twin-spark ignition, high lift camshafts and a 9:1 compression ratio raise power output to 302 bhp. Furthermore, the model had a dual-plate clutch, close-ratio transmission, Salisbury Power-Lok differential and larger Girling disc brakes. The GT’s maximum speed was 151 mph (243 km/h) and could sprint to 60 mph (97 km/h) in just 6.1 seconds. It was the fastest road legal production car at the time.

With a large factory backing, the DB4 GT was raced extensively with success by many famous drivers of the day. Despite this, Aston Martin felt they could achieve more, having emerged victorious at the 1959 edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans with the purpose built DBR1. Enter Milan-based coachbuilder Zagato. Styling of the car was enlisted to Ercole Spada who was a newcomer to the Zagato firm and only 23 years old. In less than a week, Spada had transformed the DB4 GT, combining the essence of the Aston Martin’s shape with Zagato’s free flowing lines into a smaller, even more lightweight car. Many steel components were replaced by aluminium counterparts. Nearly every non-essential element disappeared such as the bumpers. With the help of Perspex and aluminium components, a further 45kgs were shed from the GT’s weight. The front incorporated the curved profile of Aston’s signature grill and the front was low enough to warrant twin bulges on the hood for valve cover clearance. In the trunk was a huge fuel tank and spare tire which left room for little else.

The Zagato did race, earning a podium on its first competitive appearance in the hands of Stirling Moss. Three Zagatos competed at Le Mans in 1961, including the most well-known 1 VEV and 2 VEV of John Ogier's Essex Racing Stable. A repeat of the 1959 Le Mans victory was not to be, with all three cars retiring. Success would follow for the first time just a month later at Aintree in a British Grand Prix Support race, as Lex Davison, behind the wheel of 2 VEV, took a last lap lead from a Jaguar E-Type. Further success followed at several British circuits such as Silverstone, Oulton Park and Brands Hatch.

This fine 1:8 scale model of the Aston Martin DB4 GT Zagato replicates chassis DB4GT/1082/R, more commonly known as ‘1 VEV’, exactly as raced at the 1961 RAC Goodwood Tourist Trophy in the hands of Roy Salvadori for John Ogier’s Essex Race Stable. Arguably one of the car’s finest moments, Salvadori qualified third fastest after practice with a time of 1 minute 36.6 seconds, ahead of his teammates Jim Clark and Innes Ireland, but behind Stirling Moss and Mike Parkes in their Ferrari 250 GT SWBs. A slightly slower start dropped 1 VEV to fourth behind Clark at the end of the first lap, though Salvadori regained this place soon after as the trunk of Clark’s Aston had opened itself and had to pull into the pits to fix the issue. Around halfway through the race, Parkes was black-flagged when part of his undertray began to drag on the road after an off-course excursion behind the bushes at Woodcote, allowing Salvadori and 1 VEV up into second place. This was not to last, as Parkes made a tactical surprise on his fourth and final pit stop, managing to undercut both Salvadori and Ireland to regain second place. Although Salvadori tried hard in the last 15 minutes to pull back the seven second deficit, the heavier Aston Martin just did not have the steam to make up any ground and he brought the car home to claim the final podium position.

1 VEV was originally built and raced together with sister car ‘2 VEV’ (DB4GT/0183/R) by John Ogier’s Essex Race Stable. Both cars were lightweight track focused versions of the Zagato derivative. 1 VEV was originally purchased and raced in the ‘green’ shade of Aqua Verde Caliente “1 VEV” and appears to have been sold by Ogier around early 1968, by which time it appears to have undergone at least 3 colour changes – ‘white’ around April 1965, ‘maroon’ around April 1966 and ironically ‘Ferrari red’ in October 1967. The car remained with Mr. Gregory up to 1990, in which it appeared to have undergone several bodywork changes to trim and arches, as well as minor interior modifications such as a radio, before being restored around 1990 and bought at auction. Despite these changes, given the lengths of ownerships and that the car had no major accidents, it remained very original. In 2007, under the watchful guidance of 1 VEV’s owner, the car was faithfully and extensively restored again, this time as accurately as possible, ensuring a return to its original 1961 specification.

This model has been handcrafted and finished in our workshops with the co-operation and assistance of Aston Martin regarding original finishes, materials, archive imagery and drawings. The use of original CAD and supremely accurate digital scanning of the original car has allowed us to perfectly recreate every detail at scale. Furthermore, the prototype model has undergone detailed scrutiny by the manufacturer’s engineering and design teams to ensure complete accuracy of representation.

    Absolutely love Spazz!
I just received my robovac this afternoon, and let me tell ya: I already absolutely love it. I have named him Spazz, since the first time using him, he went in all sorts of seemingly random directions and was completely aggressive with ANYthing in his way. I'm talking full - bore, ram into it and push it. Then, as I realized, he was simply mapping his parameters and once he learned them (which didn't take long) he just did his thing and went right back to the charging station and rested. Here is my feedback: 1. I had a little trouble with the app. I tried logging in several different times with several different passwords and I kept getting a very cryptic message, that wasn't even complete! Just a quick flash on my screen and I cannot for the life of me tell you HOW I ended up finally logging in. But I did and will never log out. Ever. Just in case. 2. It took me a few tries (before I came to the conclusion that it was my error not the machine) to get Spazz to connect to the app. Little did I know that since the power station (some like it hot) is positioned relatively close to the Internet router already, I did not need to find it, but simply press the start/home buttons at the same time to reset the wifi and then connect to the app via bluetooth. 3. I am assuming Bluetooth always needs to be on in order to control Spazz, but at night when my phone is charging I'll turn it off and turn it back on in the morning. Not sure I like the idea of always having Bluetooth running since it is a battery drainer. 4. I also am not a fan of allowing ANY thing to use my location, except GPS, but alas, if I want to control Spazz remotely (this unit did not come with a remote, btw) I am at the mercy of this requirement. I also have outdoor cameras by the same company, so they know my location already anyway I suppose. 5. I like the suction Spazz has: he even picked up a sock that my boyfriend lacksidasically left on the floor. Which caused a red flashing error and the voice on the charging port yelled at me saying to clean the roller brush. So I flipped Spazz over and lo and behold, there was a sock halfway in and halfway out of the roller brush. Pulled it out and good as new. So, suction is AMAZING. 6. Speaking of suction, he does a great job of getting up dog hair. I have 2 dogs, one with very thin hair and the other with a wiry undercoat and it is all gone within the cleaning time. 7. And touching on that aspect, it really doesn't take THAT long. Yes, it takes longer than I do BUT I also do not go in any kind of pattern like Spazz NOR do I go over the same area more than once. In essence, he is cleaning my floors better than I do and I'm kinda ticked about it. 8. The fact that I can control how much suction he has using the app is great. Even though he features a BoostIQ, changing the suction depending on the material, I still like that I can get a more thorough cleaning using MAX. Does it use more battery? Yes. Does it clean more? Perhaps. Does it make me FEEL like it's cleaning more? Absolutely. 9. The mapping accuracy is indeed, well, accurate. I moved him upstairs to do my two bedrooms and the hallway and at first he was like, 'uhhhh I haven't been here yet. What's going on? Where am I? Who are you?!' but then he settled down and mapped out the areas just fine and went along his merry way. 10. I have to de-snag him from cords every once in awhile and give him a little nudge transitioning from the downstairs hallway to the bathroom, but honestly once he learns his map, he avoids such obstacles and has even figured out how to get over the hump from the threshold in the bathroom. Basically lifts up and scales it like he's climbing Mt. Everest, which to him, may seem like it. 11. I like the fact that he empties himself and any hair caught on the brush is quickly razored away when he goes home. Yes it's a bit noisy but it's only for a minute and I'll take that over needing to manually pull hair out like I have to in my regular vacuum. Not getting my hands all gross is a huge plus. And it really doesn't seem like there is anything tangled in it anyway. I have long hair but I'm pretty adamant about getting it thrown away even though I know there's some strands about. 12. Spazz's functionality is top - notch. Nothing has gone wrong, other than the few things with the app connection and the wayward sock incident, as it is now known as. 13. The dogs do not seem to be bothered by him at all, just curious as to what this new thing is in their space and my male quickly dis-trusted Spazz to NOT suck up his favourite bone so he snaggled it up and went to another room. My female watched Spazz very intently, just in case he may actually have legs and feet and scurry away. Thankfully she did not try to bite him like she does with my regular vacuum! 14. I have a robot trash can (motion sensour) in my kitchen and Spazz knocked into it while mapping and I told him 'that is another robot. There better not be any interaction between the two of you and don't even think about communicating.' Only time will tell what transpires between them. If we don't turn up for awhile, do a wellness check. If there's a putrid odour, but the floors are clean and the garbage has been taken out, just know humanity has lost. For everyone complaining it is not immediately perfect right out the box: there IS a manual on line. Read it. Study it. Learn it. Embrace it. If you cannot find the time to actually READ something, watch a video since most people believe that because you watched a 3 minute video, you're automatically brilliant and know everything about it. It will never be perfect in any way, shape or form. Remember, computers are only as smart as the person using them. Take some time to get to know your machine and HAVE PATIENCE!!

Review after a year of use
So i had this Vacuum for a little over a year, and i am happy with it, but in the past couple of months some issues showed up / or where kind of present the whole time because of how it works... - Its gonna find everything, and its gonna eat everything: Cables on Floors in general, behind couches, or behind sideboards, corners of lightweight carpets - gonna get stuck in the brush or robot looses contact to the floor with wheels (f.e. behind media sideboards)...you have to make sure nothing is on the floors where it could get stuck, even shoes are sometimes difficult for it. - Under Couch issue (all the time issue): the Lidar Sensor is on top of the robot (highest point) If you have a couch where the fabric underneath hangs a little down, the robot goes there but gets stuck because the Lidar sensor cant see anything, because the fabric hangs down on it. And im not talking ripped fabric - its just bulging down a little but thats enough in my case to cover the Sensor and its just sitting down there - spinning and turning, until i get under the couch and push the fabric up a little... - Battery Runtime (all the time issue): I have aprox. 1400sqft living space under AC - it needs up to 1-2 battery charges on "standard mode" to clean all floors 1x. - Corner or Edge Cleaning brush (showed up after aprox 11 months): starts to squeak sometimes really loud. Since i changed them regularly as recommended, i made sure its always clean beneath the brush and the mount, so no hair or any other debris down there. - It has problems with sliding doors (all the time issue): scans trough the doors and wants do go there but cant of course. You have to go into the app and draw a line close to sliding doors so it doesn't try to go there.... - Biggest inconvenience (showed up after 12 months): it happens to me almost every time after a clean, It drives back onto the base station - and it feels like the charging Pins either on the base or on the robot, lose contact, and the robot just discharges and next time you want to use it (f.e next day), its Batteries are empty, and you have to try turn it back on (with empty batteries) and wait for it to charge up. i cleaned both pins on the base station and the contact surfaces on the robot (no, no protective plastic strips on pins or contacts) but it doesn't really seem to help. - Sometimes the app / Robot looses Maps (sporadically): The first thing is a mapping. Robot drives around and scans the whole area - splits the map into different rooms. You can adjust this Rooms and "No go zones" via the app. Sometimes those maps inside the app go "bye bye" and you have to do it all over again. Other than that its a very nice robot and it does its thing.

App/Vacuum Loses maps after 3 months of use.
I'm hoping someone from Eufy is monitoring these reviews. We love...loved our Eufy. It works great. The mapping and map editing is so nice to be able to program the vacuum to clean different rooms each day. We love the self cleaning system that empties the Eufy after each use. We owned a Roomba a few years ago with the self empty option and it never worked. We had it replaced by Roomba twice and it still never worked. This one works exceptionally well. BUT here we are 3 months later and the app is losing the map. nearly every day, the system has to re-map our entire space. Yesterday, it had no map and went down the stairs. The unit is supposed to have a sensor to prevent it from going where there are drop offs but apparently this issue with the mapping is also showing up in the unit being unable to stay in the cleaning area. I'm hoping that someone from Eufy will reach out to help. Thanks,

Quiet, that's about the only good quality
UPDATE: Moving to 5 stars! Quickly after my 2 star review (below) the seller reached out and askked to exchange the defective product for an upgraded model at no cost to me. They were attentive and quick in responding, and I received a replacement version that also included the mopping functionality (The first didn't have this), and it works as expected. Customer service was too notch. I wouldn't hesitate to buy again. This is a lot quieter than my original Roomba, that is still running strong...but I wanted a 2nd robot vac so I could run one on the main floor and 2nd floor of my home. This one doesn't fit the bill, and I will be returning. I ran it while I was at home, and it stopped 4 times, telling me I needed to clean the brush. There was absolutely nothing bound on the brush any of the times. But had I not been home, it wouldn't have finished cleaning because it stops completely when it thinks there is hair. Then, another time, it just stopped running. It didn't say anything, so I don't know why it stopped. I assume it thought it was done, but the whole level of my home wasn't finished. This was all in just the one time I attempted to run it for 1 cycle. When I pushed the start button again, it said something to the effect of starting cleaning, so that's what makes me assume the last cycle was over. It does clean well, and is very quiet; however, it just stops for no reason far too often. I want it to run while I'm at the office, which obviously won't work if I have to be here babysitting it for the imaginary dirt on the brush. This will unfortunately be getting returned. I think I'll stick to the Roomba brand, as I have far less issues with my 10+ year old vac than this new one with all the nice features.

Decent robot vacuum, but struggles with dog hair
The setup was straightforward and the self-empty station is a nice feature. It navigates the house fairly well and does a decent job picking up everyday dust and debris on hard floors. Where it struggles is with dog hair. With a shedding dog in the house, I noticed it tends to leave behind quite a bit of hair, especially along edges and in areas where it tends to accumulate. It works better for lighter debris but doesn’t seem powerful enough to keep up with heavier pet hair. Pros: Easy setup and app integration Self-empty station is convenient Navigates rooms fairly well Cons: Struggles with dog hair Not as strong as expected for pet households Bottom Line: This vacuum works fine for general cleaning and light debris, but if you have a dog that sheds a lot, it may not keep up as well as expected. For pet owners specifically, it might not be the best fit.
