The 61XX Class was an evolution of Charles Collett’s earlier 5101 Class, with 70 locomotives built at Swindon Works between 1931 and 1935. The main improvement was a higher boiler pressure of 225psi, boosting tractive effort for heavy mixed-traffic duties.

No. 6126 entered service in October 1931, serving mainly along the Paddington to Bristol main line with allocations at Slough, Southall, Reading, and Didcot. Its final posting was Oxford from May 1964, with withdrawal in December 1965 and subsequent scrapping at Cashmore’s, Newport.
