Almenkerk Wine Estate Merlot 2021

Almenkerk Estate is een relatief klein wijnbedrijf in het Zuid Afrikaanse Elgin. Het domein is eigendom van het Belgisch/Nederlandse stel Natalie en Joris van Almenkerk. In 2002 kochten zij de toenmalige appelfarm aan en veranderden het domein geleidelijk in een wijnbedrijf. Vandaag de dag is van de 32 ha ruim 15 ha beplant met druivenstokken en maakt het domein naast de Estate wijnen ook de mooie Lace wijnen. De naam Lace verwijst overigens naar de traditionele productie van kant in het Belgische Brugge. Joris maakt zijn wijnen zo zuiver mogelijk. Op Almenkerk estate is men erg bezig met duurzaamheid, de lokale natuur en ook de lokale bevolking. Alle wijngaarden zijn in eigen beheer en worden manueel bewerkt. De wijnen zijn zeer kenmerkend voor het terroir en Joris heeft zich ook als doel gesteld om elk jaar een continue hoge kwaliteit af te leveren. Opvallend detail en niet onbelangrijk is dat de wijnen van Almenkerk ontzettend goed kunnen rijpen. Genieten in het eerste jaar na de oogst is mogelijk, maar zeker geen must!
