Vlag van Oezbekistan

De vlag van Oezbekistan bestaat uit drie horizontale banen in blauw, wit en groen, gescheiden door smalle rode lijnen. Links bovenin staan een witte halve maan en twaalf witte sterren op het blauwe veld.

Symboliek en achtergrond

Blauw staat voor de lucht en water, en verwijst ook naar het Turkse erfgoed. Wit symboliseert vrede en zuiverheid, terwijl groen de natuur en vruchtbaarheid vertegenwoordigt. De rode lijnen tussen de kleurvlakken staan voor het levensbloed dat alle mensen verbindt. De halve maan is een traditioneel islamitisch symbool en vertegenwoordigt de heropleving van het land. De twaalf sterren verwijzen naar spirituele volmaaktheid en het traditionele kalendersysteem. De vlag werd officieel aangenomen op 18 november 1991, kort na de onafhankelijkheid van de Sovjet-Unie.
