Deze viltwol is afkomstig van de geschoren wol van de schapen die bij de Texelse boeren op het eiland leven. Doordat de schapen opgroeien in het unieke Texelse eilandklimaat, heeft hun wol een ruige maar zachte kwaliteit. Deze unieke Texelse scheerwol wordt ambachtelijk gewassen en kaard, zodat er mooie kaardwol ontstaat. Deze wol wordt ook wel viltwol of kaardvlies genoemd.
