MSM is de afkorting van methylsulfonylmethaan, ofwel organisch gebonden zwavel. MSM bevat ruim 34% elementair zwavel en bevat bovendien twee methylgroepen. Het wordt van nature aangetroffen in regenwater, vers fruit en verse groenten. Moedermelk is de rijkste natuurlijke bron van MSM. Het belang van MSM voor het leven op aarde is groot.
Productiemethode
Hoewel MSM een natuurlijke stof is, zou het ondoenlijk zijn MSM op natuurlijke wijze te winnen. Er zouden zoveel bomen gekapt moeten worden, dat zou niet wenselijk zijn. De grondstoffen die nu gebruikt worden zijn DMSO, water en waterstofperoxide. Via een ingewikkeld proces wordt DMSO vervolgens omgezet in MSM. Het is hierbij van groot belang dat de toegepaste productiemethode tot een zuiver eindproduct leidt. En dat blijkt bij de productie van MSM helaas niet vanzelfsprekend te zijn. De dure distillatiemethode, die eventuele verontreinigingen die voor kunnen komen in de grondstoffen effectief verwijdert, heeft in dit opzicht de absolute voorkeur boven de vaak toegepaste (veel goedkopere) kristallisatiemethode.

Synergisten
Glucosamine is onder andere de voorloperstof van verschillende macromoleculen zoals glycosaminoglycanen, proteoglycanen, hyaluronzuur, glycolipiden en glycoproteïnen. Deze komen in vrijwel alle lichaamsweefsels voor, maar de hoogste concentraties worden aangetroffen in kraakbeen, pezen en ligamenten. De glucosamine in dit product is van topkwaliteit en uit plantaardige bron (maïs), niet uit schaaldieren. MSM-GC is daarmee vrij van veel voorkomende allergenen. Chondroïtine (als chondroïtinesulfaat) is een bestanddeel van glycosaminoglycanen.

This balm has been amazing for dry and irritated skin. I started using it on rough patches around my nose and cheeks, and it helped calm everything down quickly.
