Het gebied staat bekend om verfijnde wijnen van veelal lokale druivenrassen als de witte Pampanuto, Bombino Bianco, Fiano, Moscato Reale, en de blauwe druif Bombino Nero.

Het gebied strekt zich uit langs de kust ten noorden van de stad Bari en profiteert van de verkoeling van de heuvels en de invloed van de Adriatische zee. De stijl van de wijnen van Rivera mag men omschrijven als elegant en verfijnd. De wijnen worden gekenmerkt door veel structuur en inhoud, maar altijd met een hoge doordrinkbaarheid.
