Bodegas Valduero zag het levenslicht in 1984. Het domein was een van de pioniers achter de Do. Ribeira del Duero. Het is het verhaal van een uniek trio gevormd door Gregorio García Álvarez, Yolanda en Carolina García Viadero. Samen vormen zij de eerste generatie wijnmakers. In 1989 begonnen zij met het aankopen van de eerste wijngaarden in de beroemde "Gouden Driehoek"van Ribeira del Duero gelegen in het gebied tussen Gumiel de Mercado en Villanueva de Gumiel. Het hoogstgelegen deel van Ribeira del Duero tussen de 800 en 900 meter boven zeeniveau.

Als pioniers van Ribeira heeft Bodegas Valduero vandaag de dag ruim 150 hectare aan wijngaard. Allemaal volledig aangeplant met bush vines. Oude stokken met een lage opbrengst van zo'n 3000 tot 4000 kg opbrengt per hectare. Vandaag de dag beschikt het domein over een state of the art winery. Volledig ondergronds aangelegd. Waarbij sinds 2020 volledig met zwaartekracht wordt gewerkt in het vinificatieproces. Er wordt dus niet overgepompt wat de kwaliteit en de artisanale manier van werken ten goede komt.

Naast de grote rode Ribeira wijnen is het domein ook beroemd om de aanplant van de lokale witte druif Albillo Mayor. 

De wijngaarden van Finca Azaya bevinden zich in het glooiende Castilla y Leon. Bodegas Valduero produceert hier een tweetal fantastische wijnen die aansluiten op het gamma uit Ribeira del Duero, maar toch significant anders zijn. De Azaya wijnen kenmerken zich door een fijne elegantie die gekoppeld wordt aan de nodige power.

If you sleep hot, night-sweat, or just want a pillow that actually stays cool — these are it. 10/10 recommend.
