De Acer campestre 'Huibers Elegant' ofwel Spaanse aak ‘Huibers Elegant’ is een cultivar van Acer campestre . Hij werd gevonden door de Gelderse Boomhandel BV in 1992 en groeit min of meer eivormig. Uiteraard heeft ook deze soort dezelfde schitterend gele herfstverkleuring die zo kenmerkend is voor de soort. Plant hem bijvoorbeeld in de buurt van bomen die mooi contrasteren in de herfst met rood-oranje bladeren. Deze boom mag dan misschien wel een cultivar zijn en dus een gecultiveerd exemplaar dat niet oorspronkelijk in de natuur voorkomt. Hij blijft ondertussen gewoon een afstammeling van de belangrijke inheemse biodiversiteitskampioen. Je doet dus veel vogels en insecten een plezier als je hem in je tuin zet.

Waar de 'Huibers Elegant' planten?

Acer campestre ‘Huibers Elegant’ is geen enorm grote boom. Hij reikt hoogstens tot 10 meter maar wat hij mist aan lengte compenseert hij met kracht en uithoudingsvermogen. Deze doet het namelijk uitstekend op alle bodemsoorten want zand, leem of klei maakt hem niks uit. Daarnaast kan hij kan heel goed tegen de wind en is daardoor vooral geschikt voor plaatsing in parken, lanen en straten waar de wind vaak vrij spel heeft. Deze cultivar is spintvrij en nagenoeg vrij van meeldauw en galmijt en zou gezien kunnen worden als een verbetering van Acer campestre ‘Elsrijk’ , een andere sterke cultivar. Hard to Beat for the Price

I purchased these for a business trip to Italy and wore them daily for the two weeks that I was there, during which I walked extensively. For me, there was a break-in period of a few days; before it loosens up, it will bite your heel, so I recommend wearing bandages or heel pads initially. Following the break-in, it's a very comfortable shoe and has served me well. I purchased a wide, and for this shoe, I found the width agreeable; in my experience, Cole Haan wide widths tend to be hit or miss (i.e., a wide is sometimes not all that wide). In terms of durability, I would not expect these to remain in good condition for more than a year if you wear them daily. The leather is not of high quality, but it's acceptable for the price. Expect them to crease very quickly if not using shoe trees. That doesn't bother me, but I know some find it objectionable. All in all, I like them and would buy them again. It's a comfortable alternative to traditional dress shoes for the office and works equally well for casual wear. Most higher quality options cost at least two or three times as much, and many are unavailable in a wide.
