Beschrijving
De Bismarck was het beroemdste Duitse slagschip uit de Tweede Wereldoorlog. De kiellegging begon op 1 juli 1936 in Hamburg, Duitsland. De indienststelling vond plaats in augustus 1940. Het was de tweeling van een ander beroemd slagschip, de Tirpitz.
De Bismarck voerde slechts één offensieve operatie uit voordat hij op 27 mei 1941 tot zinken werd gebracht. Het slagschip had een lengte van 250,5 meter en een breedte van 36 meter. De bemanning bestond uit circa 100 officieren en 2000 manschappen. Op 8 juni 1989 op een diepte van 4750 meter, vond oceanograaf Robert Ballard het wrak van het schip.
