Deze zuurhoudende stoffen bouwen op hun beurt druk op achter de gelcoat, waardoor blazen en uiteindelijk ook barsten kunnen ontstaan. Wanneer de gelcoat op deze manier beschadigd wordt, zuigt het onderliggende laminaat water op als een spons.
