In de herfst kleurt het blad van de veldesdoorn geel en daarna valt het blad af.

De Acer platanoides Emerald Queen gedijt in verschillende klimaten en grondsoorten, wat bijdraagt aan zijn veelzijdigheid. Hij heeft een matige tot snelle groeisnelheid en bereikt een hoogte van ongeveer 15-20 meter. De compacte en symmetrische kroon draagt bij aan zijn aantrekkelijke vorm.
