Rioja is natuurlijk wereldberoemd om zijn rode wijnen, maar bij Valenciso maken ze ook heerlijke witte wijn. Een heel bijzondere witte Rioja in een zeer eigentijdse en eigenzinnige stijl. Hij wordt gemaakt van garnacha blanca en viura. De wijn vergist met natuurlijke gisten en rijpt negen maanden op vaten van Kaukasisch eiken, dat fijner is dan Frans eiken en daardoor minder tannines afgeeft. De wijn heeft daardoor de kracht en complexiteit die je verwacht van Rioja, maar is verfijnder en levendig. Rioja Blanca heeft aroma's van geurige steenvruchten, vanille, amandelen en een florale toets met jasmijn. Intens en rijp van smaak, romig en mineraal, erg mooi in balans. Nu al ontzettend lekker, maar bewaar hem gerust een tijdje voor een speciale gelegenheid.

Tip: Lekker bij gerechten met vis, schaal- en schelpdieren of een borrelplankje met charcuterie. Serveer bijvoorbeeld bij Kaapse heek met een saffraansaus.

Na een carrière bij andere wijnhuizen besloten Luís Valentín en Carmen Enciso hun eigen wijn te gaan maken. Ze kozen de naam Valenciso, een samentrekking van hun achternamen. Ze leerden het vak van de beste wijnmakers op aarde. Ze kregen les van de beroemde Denis Dubourdieu en werkten eerder bij Bodegas Palacios, dat samenwerkte met de beroemde wijnconsultant Michel Rolland. In 1998 begonnen ze voor zichzelf, aanvankelijk met gehuurde faciliteiten. In 2006 konden ze eindelijk hun eigen wijnhuis openen in Alta Rioja. Net als Rolland kiezen ze voor een moderne interpretatie van klassieke Rioja, gemaakt op Europees eiken. Niet alleen het hout moet van de beste kwaliteit zijn, natuurlijk begint het bij de druiven. Die zijn afkomstig van 80 jaar oude wijnstokken in Villalba, Haro en Ollauri. Alle percelen worden volledig met de hand bewerkt, van snoei tot oogst. In 2016 begon Valenciso aan de transitie naar biologische productie.
