The property

Château Carbonnieux was founded in the 13th century by the Benedictines of the Abbey of Sainte-Croix. Château Carbonnieux is located in the Pessac-Léognan appellation and is one of the oldest châteaux in Bordeaux. In 1956, Marc Perrin acquired the château which became a classified growth in 1959 in red and white.

The vineyard

Château Carbonnieux 2021 is a Pessac-Léognan wine made from a vineyard spread over a mosaic of soils ranging from clay-limestone to Günzian gravel. 45 hectares are dedicated to white grape varieties. The vines are 30 years old on average. The entire vineyard has been awarded the level 3 High Environmental Value label. In 2021, 25% of the vineyard is managed in Organic Agriculture.

Vinification and maturation

Hand-picked, the grapes are selected twice on the vine and on the sorting table, before a soft pneumatic pressing and a cold settling. Fermentation is carried out in barrels and tuns, before maturing in barrels (25% of which are new wood) for about 10 months with stirring.

Blend

This Château Carbonnieux white 2021 is a blend of Sauvignon Blanc (67%) and Semillon (33%).
