Bamboe is een plantsoort dat ontzettend snel groeit. De plant maakt elk jaar opnieuw nieuw stammen aan die rap de hoogte in schieten. Om producten van de stengels te maken, worden de holle stammen in rechthoekige en vlakke strips gesneden. Deze strips worden aan elkaar gemaakt waarbij de natuurlijke nerfstructuur zichtbaar blijft.
