In 1990 trokken The Serenes aandacht met dit debuut met daarop singles Abiding Place en Rebecca (You’re Gonna Be Allright). Voor Barefoot And Pregnant kregen Theo de Jong (zang/gitaar), Paul Dokter (zang/gitaar), Ale Bosma (bas) en Joan Hooghiemstra (drums) grandioze kritieken en de plaat eindigde hoog in de OOR-Top 10 van 1990. In de OOR-Millennium lijst van beste Nederlands albums tussen 1990 en 2000 eindigde het op de elfde plaats. In 1991 kreeg de band een Edison voor het album in de categorie Pop Nationaal.
