Over de auteur:

Elsa Beskow as de dochter van een Noorse vader en een Zweedse moeder, die beiden veel van de natuur hielden en hun kind een onbezorgde jeugd gaven. Ze ontmoette Natanael Beskow, die later theologie ging studeren. Toen ze in 1897 met hem trouwde, werd ze domineesvrouw in een van Stockholm's voorsteden. Zij gaf tekenles aan haar oude school. Haar boeken droeg ze voor een deel op aan haar zes zonen, van wie er één, Bo, later een bekend schilder werd. In 1952 kreeg ze, voor alles wat ze op het gebied van kinderliteratuur had betekend, de Niels Holgerssonprijs. Geboren 1874 - Overleden 1953 (Stockholm).
