Soms is het bijvoorbeeld alsof hij, rond het einde van de Tweede Wereldoorlog, de vroeg-eenentwintigste-eeuwse crisis van de moderne democratische rechtsstaat in enkele woorden tot op het bot analyseert ? op de priemend-bescheiden manier, kort door de bocht en toch o zo verstandig en subtiel, waar hij patent op had.
