Zinkanodes worden voornamelijk gebruikt in zeewater en beugel. Zinkanodes kunnen in brakwater worden gebruikt als de weerstand is niet te hoog (ongeveer 1,5 μm). Zink is chemisch stabiel dan aluminium en heeft daarom de voorkeur door vele in licht gefragneerde wateromgevingen.
