Cascadia - Rolling Rivers dompelt spelers onder in de taak om de majestueuze rivieren van de Cascadia-regio te vormen en te beheren. Het spel breidt het basisconcept van het originele Cascadia-spel uit door de toevoeging van riviertegels die nieuwe strategische dimensies en uitdagingen introduceren. Spelers selecteren tegels uit een gemeenschappelijke pool en plaatsen deze op hun bord om rivieren, visgronden en aangrenzende habitats te creëren. Het doel is om de meest coherente en ecologisch rijke gebieden te vormen. Dit wordt bereikt door tactvolle plaatsing van tegels die niet alleen aan elkaar moeten passen qua landschap, maar ook een thuis moeten bieden aan diverse diersoorten. De dierfiches en riviertegels volgen specifieke regels voor plaatsing en scoren, waardoor spelers gedurende het spel hun strategie moeten aanpassen om optimaal te scoren. Het eindspel wordt geactiveerd zodra de laatste tegel is geplaatst, waarna de speler met de meest punten door correct verbonden habitats en succesvolle riviersystemen wint.
