Venetië, begin 17e eeuw: onder de koepels van de San Marco-basiliek klinkt muziek die Europa versteld doet staan.

Met zijn vernieuwende stijl gaf Claudio Monteverdi het muzikale leven van de stad een ongekende glans en verenigde hij theatrale expressie en meerkorigheid tot indrukwekkende klankwerelden die perfect aansloten bij de pracht van Venetiaanse staats- en kerk-plechtigheden.

In dit prachtige programma klinkt een selectie uit Selva morale e spirituale (1641), Monteverdi’s monumentale bundel geestelijke muziek. De uitvoering is in handen van La Sfera del Canto (18 zangers) en Les Symphoniaques, dat op historische instrumenten speelt.
