Prunus ‘Accolade’ op stam is een vaasvormig exemplaar. Deze soort valt onder de Rosaceae familie en kan 6 á 8 meter hoog worden. Het is een vroegbloeiende cultivar die in april zijn opvallende roze bloesem laat zien. De Japanse sierkers ‘Accolade’ op stam heeft doorgaans een groen blad, tot dat deze gaat verkleuren in de herfst naar een oranje/geel/rode kleur. Hij scoort door zijn opvallende bloesem en herfstkleur hoog in sierwaarde.

Afkomst

Prunus ‘Accolade’ valt onder de Rosaceae familie oftewel de rozenfamilie. De Prunus ‘Accolade’ is ontstaan door een kruising van de Prunus sargentii op stam en Prunus subhirtella. En is verkrijgbaar in meerdere varianten, zoals de Prunus 'Accolade' meerstam . De oorsprong van deze soorten ligt in West-China, Korea en Japan. De bloeiperiode staat centraal in het feest ‘Hanami’ wat te maken heeft met het nieuwe leven wat zich in de lente voordoet.

Eigenschappen

De Prunus ‘Accolade’ blijft vrij klein en past daarom goed in een kleinere tuin. De boom staat het liefste op een zonnige plek, zonder verharding. Hij kan redelijk tegen de wind, echter niet tegen zeewind. Kijk dan naar windbestendige bomen . Het is een kort bloeiende soort, met een geurende en opvallende bloesem. Daardoor past deze perfect in geurtuinen en biodiverse tuinen, hij is namelijk erg aantrekkelijke voor vlinders, bijen en vogels. Verder groeit hij goed op vrijwel elke grondsoort, klei- zand- en leemgrond.

Onderhoud prunus 'Accolade' op stam

De Japanse sierkres 'Accolade' hoeft niet veel gesnoeid te worden, enkel wanneer u de boom in vorm wilt houden. Snoeien kan in de maanden april t/m september. De eerste twee groeiseizoenen heeft de boom genoeg water nodig, wekelijks één grote gift.

Excellent resource for defending why Christianity is not rooted in mythology

I bought this book as required reading for an introductory Old Testament class I was taking in seminary. Sad to say, the textbook mostly collects dust. To this day, I use Oswalt's book for reference and continue to recommend the reading of it to others. I do not believe one can fully defend the Christian faith without first knowing how firmly convinced some scholars and historians are that Christianity is rooted in mythology. I will not lie. If you read about some of these myths in a silo, you may find yourself leaning toward such false beliefs. When you take a step back and consider the time in history in which the Old Testament was written, the picture becomes more clear. In the introduction to the Old Testament class, we also read Ancient Near Eastern Thought and the Old Testament by John H. Walton. Again, the text book is mostly collecting dust, I also repeatedly use this one as a reference. I would strongly recommend reading both books. The second is more academic in style than the first, but it helps lend further context.

Is the Bible Really Unique?

Oswalt takes up the question of the uniqueness of the Christian Bible by focusing on the Old Testament (which is also the holy book of the Jews) and its similarities and differences to the myths of the periods in which it was put together. His comparison and contrast make for very interesting reading. He allows the two world views to stand alone, allowing the reader to understand his conclusions without forcing him/her to agree with the author. In reading this book, I also began to notice some very interesting parallels between the ancient worldview of "continuity" (versus the biblical view that Oswalt calls "transcendence") and some modern views being espoused in the Western world. Definitely worth a read whether or not you agree with him. It will help broaden your view both of your view and of the other side's view.

This book makes a strong stand for the position that the Bible does not fit within the genre of myth. That is the positive aspects of this work. However, this book at times seems somewhat philosophical, it can be hard to follow the author's logic, and it does not adequately cover one of the most fundamental questions the author poses. For example, the question of whether the theology of the Bible should receive special credence if the historical basis it rests on is found to be incorrect is asked, but the answer given is short and does not fully interact with the question which I found to be very disappointing.
