Paolo Nutini’s nieuwe album ‘Last Night In The Bittersweet’ is een 70 minuten durend epos dat de afstand overbrugt tussen classic rock, post-punk en hypnotiserende Krautrock. De plaat bewijst hierin zijn waarde als Nutini's diepste, meest gevarieerde, meest volmaakte, en vooral zijn meest lonende set tot nu toe. De single 'Through The Echoes' is een tijdloze klassieker in de lijn van Ben E. King en Otis Redding, waarbij Nutini's stemgeluid ons eraan herinnert waarom hij überhaupt zo'n succesvolle artiest is. Aan de andere kant van het spectrum vinden we 'Lose It'. De track heeft een indringend Motorik-ritme en doet denken aan Duitse bands uit de vroege jaren '70, zoals Can en Neu! - wat dan weer komt omdat Paolo steeds vaker schrijft met behulp van zijn basgitaar. Het album is geproduceerd door Paolo Nutini samen met Dani Castelar en Gavin Fitzjohn. Paolo schreef de plaat bijna volledig zelf, hoewel leden van zijn liveband ook enkele stukken bij hebben gedragen.
