Size: 30cm x 30cm
Paper: Somerset Velvet for Epson - 255 gsm, 100% cotton rag
Each print in this exclusive series is strictly limited to just 10 editions. Once sold out, there will be no restocks.
Àyàngalú is revered as the orisa of drumming and the patron of drummers. In Yorùbá thought, àyàn is remembered as the first master drummer and drum-maker, later honoured as an orisa, and the title àyàn also names the professional drummer as a human agent of that power.
This is why many drumming lineages carry the prefix Àyàn in family names, signalling inherited custodianship of drum knowledge.
In this painting, Àyàngalú holds a dùndún (talking drum). The figure draws on the visual language of Benin court brass plaques.
