"Let me explain it. It's Ruff Draft. For my real niggaz only. DJs that play that real live shit. You wanna bounce in your whip, sound like it's straight from the ma'f*ckin' cassette! Ruff Draft... Let's do it."... Thus begins Ruff Draft. Released only on vinyl in February 2003 with European distribution, this sought-after album remains the elusive key release in J Dilla's catalog.

Ruff Draft would later prove a turning point in Dilla's career. He spent the '90s making a name for himself as an all-around, top-notch hip-hop producer for A Tribe Called Quest, Common and de la Soul, eventually branch-ing ut to work with a variety of heavy-hitters in hip-hop and R&B, including Busta Rhymes, The Roots and Erykah Badu. In contrast to understated, mellow vibes and minimal, crisp drumbeats he brought to these groups, Ruff Draft first revealed a whole new side to Dilla's musical genius. Reewheeling, in-your-face synthesizers, and an unchar-acteristically sample-heavy approach that was as bangin' as it was experimental.

After Ruff Draft's limited release, Dilla relocated from Detroit to Los Angeles where he would continue working on tracks for Common's Be (Geffen, 2005), hostface Killah's Fishscale (Def Jam, 2006), Busta Rhyme's Big Bang (Aftermath, 2006), and his own material - all of this while dealing with a life threatening illness that was unknown outside his immediate circle. J Dilla died on February 10, 2006, after suffering for over 2 years from complications of TTP, a rare blood disease, and Lupus. His passing came 3 days after the release of his album Donuts (Stones Throw, 2006). Coverage of his life's work in Rolling Stone, Spin, XXL, NYTimes, Scratch, Fader, MTV, The Source and his subsequently released The Shining (BBE, 2006), have presented Dilla's music to countless new fans. Stones Throw Records is proud to release Ruff Draft for the first time on CD, together with 4 previously unre-leased tracks, and a bonus CD of the Ruff Draft instrumentals - all from the original master tapes.

Fun, Steamy, and Just Enough Depth
Format: Kindle
I liked this book — it was cute, short, and exactly what I expected from a quick Omegaverse read. While it doesn’t dive too deeply into character development, there was enough personality and backstory sprinkled in to keep the relationships believable and engaging, especially given the length. What I really appreciated was that the focus stayed on the main characters and their connection. The heat, the banter, and the romance were front and center without getting bogged down in unnecessary drama. It made for an easy, enjoyable read that flowed smoothly from start to finish. I’m looking forward to the next book in the series. There was a teaser blurb at the end, but it isn’t up on Amazon yet — hopefully it’ll be posted soon so I can add it to my wish list.

Good But
Format: Kindle
A little disjointed at times, at least to me. This was about Lila (omega woman) and Harrison, Wesley and River (alpha males). The main characters were likeable, as was Lila's friend, Wendy. Lila finally wised up and left the alpha she had been with for a couple of years because he was an a-hole, who treated and used her horribly. She knew some, if not all, of the guys from college if I remember correctly. The guys had been looking for an omega to bond with for some time. When Lila saw Harrison again, the other two guys were out on a date with another omega but Harrison refused to go because he didn't like her. He saw Lila again and knew she was the omega they had been searching for. However, it wasn't easy for them to convince Lila of that because of the way her ex-alpha treated her. The sex was hot. There was one inconsistency. I could almost swear that when Lila first saw Harrison again, she told her best friend, Wendy, that Harrison was the lead for his pack. Then later on when she's spending time with River, she thinks he is the pack's lead. Maybe I read something incorrectly. All in all, a good story.

Sweet read
Format: Kindle
A sweet steamy read of an omega who finds her worth and finds the guys that are willing to show her. The story had lovable characters with low angst and a HEA.

Short and sweet
Format: Kindle
Beautifully written, I was worried when it was labelled as a novella at the start, really used to those missing info and jumping forward to complete the story or not having complete character growth, not to worry! Author gave enough time to fall in love (and hate) with everyone, can't wait to read Wendy's story I feel like she will be the badass we all love!
