But somewhere along the journey of discovery, a peculiar transformation occurred. Science, once a methodical guide, became a substitute for a downright bizarre form of religion. You were expected to "trust the science" unquestionably, or risk being branded a heretic, a denier of the sacred truths. Never mind if you were knee-deep in rigorous scientific exploration or a luminary in your field. If your findings dared to deviate from the high priests' creed, you might as well start drafting your career's obituary.
Gone are the days of scientific rebels, fearlessly challenging the established nomenclature in pursuit of knowledge. Now, the ivory-robed clergy of the Church of Science must toe the line of the canon, lest they face the wrath of the financial benefactors.
But it doesn't have to be this way. And scientists sure as heck don't want to operate like this. We just need a little backbone and trust in the process of science over the allure of politics and finance. The fact that these tees would look pretty great under a lab coat is probably not lost on you.
