Description

Jad Fair & Yo La Tengo - Strange But True [Green]In the '90s, Jad Fair had five favorite bands and songwriters: Daniel Johnston, The Pastels, Sonic Youth, Teenage Fanclub, and Yo La Tengo. It's a good list, sure, but what's most remarkable about it is that, in the course of a dozen years or so, Fair made music with all of them in one form or another. Jad Fair has been prolific for half a century now, long before the Internet could create a simultaneous and seemingly eternal archive of everything

In the '90s, Jad Fair had five favorite bands and songwriters: Daniel Johnston, The Pastels, Sonic Youth, Teenage Fanclub, and Yo La Tengo. It's a good list, sure, but what's most remarkable about it is that, in the course of a dozen years or so, Fair made music with all of them in one form or another.

Jad Fair has been prolific for half a century now, long before the Internet could create a simultaneous and seemingly eternal archive of everything someone with his predilections made. He's been involved in several hundred titles, at least, many of them out-of-print on tiny labels that do not exist anymore. In fact, one of those collaborations that Fair made in the '90s-Strange But True, with Yo La Tengo-has been hard to find, despite it's stateside release on October 20th 1998, by Matador Records.

For the first time, the album is being reissued on vinyl by Joyful Noise and Bar/None. By the time Fair played a party with Yo La Tengo in the mid-'90s, they were all friends, fans, and collaborators, having worked on or released records together. When Fair suggested they all head into the studio, the trio bit.

The result, Strange But True, is as wonderful, varied, and wild as some enormous lawn of native grasses. This collaborative album showcases the aritsts' uncanny range, bringing us back to a time when indie rock was still free to be as weird and unruly as it's makers wanted it to be.

Good set of clubs for beginners to find out if golf is their game! You'll need a putter, though.
Hand Orientation: Right, Color: Blue/Black
This nice inexpensive set is great for a beginner at golf, which is me--never played before. I don't evem know if I'm going to like playing, but at least I have a set of clubs so that I can give it a try...it's the exercise from walking the course that appeals to me. My son says he can teach me, even using mens clubs. I figure if I like the game, I can get a nicer set of ladies clubs and pass this set to my grandson. If I don't like the game, I can still pass the set along to my grandson! My son thought these clubs were decent weight and quality and well worth the price...the only thing missing was a putter, but we found a cheaper one to add to the set.

Good second-level pickleball paddles for a great price
Color: Black, Color: Black
I've been playing pickleball for a while now, though not ever well. I have progressed from wooden paddles and just trying things out to bundles of basic fiberglass paddles and balls to higher-end paddles that individually cost more than the "multi-paddle plus balls" bundles. I have kids and kids-in-law and grandkids, and not everyone has their own paddles. Thus, I purchased this set to get a couple more paddles. This Amazon Basics set of 2 paddles, four balls, and a carrying case is a starter set, maybe one step up from the basic wooden paddles that I started with. The paddles are nice, light-weight but sturdy, with a decent surface that should allow some level of control. The grips are nice, and there is some additional grip tape you can use to retape a handle that wears out. The balls are standard balls, and should get you started. The case is similar to cases I've purchased before with other sets. Unfortunately, the makers skimped on the zipper. It only has one (another case from a similar set had two zippers), and after just a few uses, the zipper completely fell off (see photo). This makes the case completely useless, and definitely drops my rating. But, given the price, the quality of the paddles, and the four balls, this is still a great starter set, even without a cheap carrying case. I'm happy to have the extra balls and paddles.

Soooo cute & girly!
Color: Pastel Zigzag, Color: Pastel Zigzag
This cute coral and white pickleball paddle set is perfect for beginners or casual games. The paddles feel sturdy and well made, and the color combo is really fun and stylish. I also love that it comes with two different types of balls, so you’re ready to play right away. The compact carrying bag is a great bonus too — it keeps everything organized and is easy to bring to the court.
