A dark blue fiberglass rocking chair (RAR) designed in 1950 by Charles and Ray Eames for the Herman Miller Furniture Company of Zeeland, Michigan.  IThe fiberglass shell is upholstered in blue Naugahyde with an orange trim, and dates to the 1960s.  The rocker's wire base is a newer Herman Miller replacement that is clad in black with walnut struts.

CHARLES & RAY EAMES were an American married team of industrial designers whose creativity and drive helped to shape America's 20th century.  Their lives and work represented many of the most defining developments of the period:  the West Coast's coming-of-age, the shift from making goods to producing information, the global reach of American culture.  The Eameses saw modern design as an agent of social change; their evolution from furniture designers to cultural ambassadors speaks not only to their boundless talent but also to an overlap between their interests and the national agenda.  In a time of uniquely shared objectives, they partnered with the federal government and top businesses to lead the charge to modernize post-war America.  (No need to belabor the well-recorded story of their enduring contribution.  Suffice it to say that American mid-century design would not have been what it was without their tremendous gifts.)

The Eames' relationship with manufacturer HERMAN MILLER began in the late '40s and went on to become perhaps the most legendary collaborative effort ever known in the modern furniture industry, as the sheer wealth of their design output attests.

HERMAN MILLER was founded in 1905 as the Star Furniture Co. in Zeeland, a town in western Michigan near Grand Rapids.  Zeeland had been settled primarily by Dutch immigrants, many of whom handed down a legacy of skill in crafting fine furniture.  By 1900, Grand Rapids and its environs had become a hub for furniture production.  In 1919, Dirk Jan ("DJ") De Pree, originally hired by Star as a clerk, became its president, and it was renamed the Michigan Star Furniture Co.  De Pree and his father-in-law, Herman Miller, along with a small group of local businessmen, purchased 51% of the company stock in 1923 and renamed it HERMAN MILLER.

The company had historically been a manufacturer of high-end, traditional style home furnishings, modifications of European designs.  With the coming of the Great Depression, De Pree was forced to consider new products to survive in a shrinking market.  In 1931 he was approached by the industrial designer Gilbert Rohde, who reportedly entered the showroom unannounced.  De Pree listened to Rohde's ideas and, attracted by his straightforward approach, hired him to design a new line of furniture for HERMAN MILLER.  Rohde speculated that the decreasing size of modern homes would inspire a demand for a smaller, simpler, and lighter furniture style that De Pree referred to as "more honest" than that of traditional pieces.  So began the transformation of HERMAN MILLER from a producer of historical furniture designs to the modern furniture juggernaut they would become.

HERMAN MILLER debuted its new line of modern furniture at the Century of Progress exposition in Chicago.  In 1941, the company opened a showrooms in Chicago and New York City.  Under Rohde's supervision HERMAN MILLER entered the office furniture market in 1942 with the introduction of the modular 'Executive Office Group' (EOG).  Rohde died in 1944 and was replaced by architect George Nelson, who joined the firm as its director of design in 1945.  Nelson was to have an enormous influence upon HERMAN MILLER, not only for his personal design contributions, but also for the talented designers he recruited to its ranks, including; Isamu Noguchi, Charles and Ray Eames, Robert Propst, and textile designer Alexander Girard.  HERMAN MILLER incorporated in 1960 and is in business to this day as one of the top producers of office furniture in the world.

Beat Mattress Protector yet!
Size: Queen, Color: White
This is the ULTIMATE bed protector I’ve bought in MANY years! Fits SUPER deep mattress. Has a nice thick fill. Doesn’t have any crinkle sound when you move nor makes you feel “hot” either. Literally waterproof also definitely works at keeping mattress protected especially against a huge amount of water poured on top! Washes and dries well in the dryer without shrinkage or losing any lot or waterproofing. Don’t use any bleach or softener or dryer sheets. Fantastic but and HIGHLY recommend! Doesn’t shift on bed either. Has full elastic type mesh ALL around the side of mattress that goes underneath to hold firmly in place. Order size of actual bed even if you have extended height mattress.

Great fit, good added comfort, long dry time
Size: Twin, Color: White, Size: Twin, Color: White
I got the regular twin size for my toddler’s bed. Before, he had a yellow foam topper (one of the cheap ones) and a mattress protector that barely stretched to the bottom of the mattress. I LOVE that this is such a deep fit so I didn’t need to worry about it coming up a lot. We have a standard size twin mattress. For breathability, it does seem like it might trap heat- it is very warm to lay on the mattress now, but that doesn’t bother us. It is comfortable to lay on the mattress. I don’t think it is as thick as the foam topper we had, but that was expected. For a waterproof topper, it’s a pretty good fluffiness. Washing: Hours fit in our washing machine fine. However, I did have to dry it three times. You can’t dry it with anything else or whatever else is in there gets bundled up inside it. I didn’t take a star off for this because we generally have to run loads a second time in our dryer anyways, and it might be because of the weight that it takes longer to dry. overall, I am happy with the purchase! My toddler’s bed is much more “in place” with the sheets, it’s still comfortable and the cost is worth the money to me.

Get your comfy on
Color: Black, Size: King, Color: Black, Size: King
This Bedsure King Mattress Topper - Viscose Made from Bamboo: This ultra-soft, thick, and fluffy pillow top mattress pad is made from bamboo and is 21 inches deep with a breathable, moisture-wicking design. It’s available in black and measures 78x80 inches. While it’s a great choice, it does take a bit of time to be able to use when you first receive it. First, you need to remove the packaging and then put it in the dryer on low fluff for 20 minutes. After that, you should lay it across your bed for 24 hours to allow it to expand fully. So, plan on not being able to use it for 2 days. However, following these instructions will ensure that you get the best ultra-soft thickness and the perfect fit for your bed, plus you’ll feel comfortable when you’re ready to sleep on it. This Bedsure King Mattress Topper is incredibly comfortable. You’ll have the best nights’ sleep of your life with it. The quality of this topper is exceptional. I washed it, dried it, and it still came out perfect. There were no clumps or bunching. It laid out perfectly on our king bed mattress. This thing feels amazing. I didn’t want to get out of bed. Being a coffee addict, I didn’t mind not having it first thing in the morning because it’s so soft. My husband even approved of this topper. I like how both of lying on it, I don’t feel him moving around. This Bedsure King Mattress Topper is not too soft that you sink in. It’s just right. It’s like a soft hug on your body, but not wrapped around you. After a few days of sleep on it, my back didn’t hurt. I was surprised. I also like how this topper helps protect and keep your mattress from wearing out quickly. It provides long-lasting stability to your mattress. This Bedsure King Mattress Topper is the perfect thickness. I love how my sheets still fit over this and my mattress with no problems. The topper stays put on my mattress also. I like the added elastic band for support keeping it in mattress. We just bought a new mattress and I wanted a topper to add more comfort so this was a perfect addition. Ive bought other Bedsure items for our condo, we rent out and guests always like those toppers. This the first time getting a single topper with no memory foam added separately. I have to say I like the added comfort this Bedsure King Mattress Topper - Viscose Made from Bamboo Ultra Soft Thick Fluffy Pillow Top Mattress Pad with 21 Inch Deep Pocket, Breathable, Moisture Wicking, Black, 78x80 Inch adds to our mattress top. It’s just the right added comfort. You can’t see the wording Bedsure through sheets either. I get do my stretches in bed, yoga and still able to do with no problems. The price is spot on for a nice quality mattress pad. Definitely highly recommend getting this for your mattress. You will be glad you did. It will last a long time.

A better topper from a company I trust
Color: Black, Size: Twin
I have a memory foam daybed that has seen better days. The top layer has started to shift from regular use, and I wanted something that would help hold it together. The Bedsure Twin Mattress Topper does exactly that and made a huge difference right away. This is a high quality, well constructed mattress pad. It fits securely over an extra thick mattress and stays in place. The corner bands under deep pockets are strong and keep everything aligned without slipping. The measurements are accurate. There are instructions to dry it, then leave it out to expand. There was no weird smell. What you see is exactly what you get, in a good way. The cushioning is even and comfortable, and the fabric feels thick and smooth. It adds structure while still improving comfort. It has a more premium look and function than expected, similar to what you would find in a Five-Star hotel. It feels expensive. I also appreciate that the color is not white. It looks cleaner over time and feels like a more practical choice. I have used several Bedsure products, and the quality has been consistent. I also like that it is a woman founded and owned brand, and they continue to improve their products.

adds a touch of comfort!
Color: Black, Size: Queen, Color: Black, Size: Queen
I ordered this mattress topper for our guest bedroom. It is soft and adds a little plushness to the existing mattress. I ordered the queen size for our queen size mattress. It fit well, without much overlap from the mattress topper. The topper has elastic corner bands as well as the fitted sheet like band around the edge, so the topper should stay in place. The color is black, as shown and if you use light colored sheets, it will likely show through. To combat this, I used a white mattress protector overtop of the pillow topper. You cannot see it through our protector and white sheets. The topper is more like a padded mattress protector than a true topper. It reminds me of a pillow top, it's not foam just filled to add softness to the mattress. I think it's a great addition, it adds a little height and comfort to the mattress. Overall, I think this is a nice upgrade to our guest room. It fits well, and serves its intended purpose. I would recommend to anyone wanting to improve the comfort of their mattress.
