When the Clair-Daü estate broke apart in the early 1980s following Joseph Clair's death, Bruno managed to reclaim a meaningful share of the family's Côte de Nuits vineyards — including this 0.578-hectare plot in Morey-Saint-Denis — and founded his own domaine in Marsannay in 1979. En la Rue de Vergy sits just above Bonnes-Mares on a southeast-facing slope at 320 meters, where Premeaux limestone bedrock and white oolites leave almost no topsoil; vines root through rock crevices to find water. The domaine uses sustainable, organic practices in the vineyard. Chardonnay is fermented in stainless steel with ambient yeast, then aged 18 months on the lees in oak barrels with roughly 15% new wood. The result is mineral-forward, with pear, green apple, and citrus on the nose, a saline, tightly wound mid-palate, and a long finish.
