It is typically found as a potted plant with the upper section of its beautiful swelling roots on display. It can grow to be 18 to 24 inches tall. It takes on the form of a little tree, with a twisted caudex, smooth reddish bark, and small yellow-orange flowers that bloom from spring to summer. Plant in brilliant shade or full sun. Extremely dry growing, even in a container, and tolerant to temperatures as low as the low 20s F.

When the tuberous roots form, this plant becomes a highly eye-catching container plant. Lift the plant and replant it with the exposed roots after growing with the tuberous roots in the soil to gain size. Trim any twig-like stems for the best appearance.
