Taking the sister fabric West House Trellis, that was designed on paler back cloths at first to speak to West House Trail, this has been turned on its head to produce this dramatic new fabric, West House Trellis Noire. Flora has always strived to introduce a black background to her collection, in the tradition of vibrant Dutch chintzes
West House Trellis was inspired by a small fragment of a 19th Century French ‘fichu’, a traditional handkerchief. Taking the sister fabric West House Trellis, that was designed on paler back cloths at first to speak to West House Trail, this has been turned on its head to produce this dramatic new fabric, West House Trellis Noire. Flora has always strived to introduce a black background to her collection, in the tradition of vibrant Dutch chintzes featuring a dark glazed background and pop of floral colour.
Hand screen printed in England using traditional techniques on an Irish linen backcloth, the screens have been reworked to be read as a distinctive meandering white silhouette for this colourway. The very specific blue/black of this colour way is what gives it its luminescence.
