We are pleased to announce our latest product from our motorsport development on the Golf 7 and MQB platform cars the VWR CUP EDITION INTAKE SYSTEM.

We have developed this for our Golf 7 Volkswagen Racing Cup car program so branded Cup Edition, and are now offering it for race or as a fast-road upgrade.

This new Cup Edition intake replaces the entire restrictive standard air box on the factory Golf 7 GTI and Golf 7 R, plus other MQB cars using the 2.0 TSI EA888 engine, such as Audi S3 and Leon Cupra 280.

Cold air is drawn through the standard front panel aperture into the filter chamber area. Intake air temperature is protected from the heat of the engine bay with a fully-formed CAD-designed aluminium heat shield which seals against the underside of the bonnet/hood and extends right underneath the filter chamber area.

The VWR Cup Edition Intake System comes with an oversized domed High-Flow TriFoam air filter designed to provide increased surface area and dust capacity. This extra surface area provides even more airflow with lower restriction, to ensure that the largest volumes of the coolest possible air is available to the engine at all times. This maximizes efficiency and improves drivability and torque throughout the rev range - turbocharger spool dropped nearly 500 RPMs, reducing turbo lag and creating faster turbo response.

All parts have been developed exclusively for Golf 7/MQB meaning that fitting is very straightforward, and the original mounting points are retained. This is the attention to detail that makes the VWR parts different - careful engineering for a perfect fit and function The VWR Cup Edition intake integrates seamlessly with the factory management system to provide the perfect basis for modifying the car or as an essential part of higher-level tuning along with remapping or exhaust upgrades.

CONSTRUCTION

The VWR Cup Edition domed intake filter itself is constructed from a TriFoam triple-layer laminate of open-cell polyurethane foam, which gives an exceptionally high level of filtration to protect the engine from contaminants in the air down to well below 5 microns, whilst not greatly restricting airflow. This exact same filter material is used by F1 teams around the world due to its excellent filtration and airflow properties. In our experience, cheaper (and single-layer) foam filter materials are unable to deliver the same flow and filtration meaning a potentially very risky compromise for your engine.

The end result of our development is the exact Cold-Air Intake System that we use in our Cup race cars, which also makes for one of the most popular modifications for a road car.

AIRFLOW

Through keeping intake temperatures as low as possibly, and greatly improving airflow into the engine, more power is produced, turbo lag is reduced and better fuel efficiency is achieved. Our development has shown that a high-flow intake system on the Golf 7 / MQB EA888 engines really only gives worthwhile gains once power outputs reach over 300bhp up to that level, the original factory intake is satisfactory, especially when combined with a VWR High Flow Panel Filter. So to really get the most from the VWR Cup Edition intake, its fitment should be combined with a reputable ECU upgrade.

Our testing on the VWR Cup Edition Intake on a Stage 1 Golf 7 R has given gains of 16bhp, or around 5% more effective peak power compared with the standard factory air box. Yet testing on cars up to 360bhp (and even beyond) shows further increased power improvements from the VWR Cup Edition Intake system, as the standard air box and filter reaches and exceeds its airflow limit. and in some cases at 500rpm less revs in doing so. With higher powered cars, so come greater gains.

DESIGN

The intake uses a fully formed black powder-coated aluminium shield which separates the high flow triple-layer filter from the hot air of the engine bay. The shield extends not only up to the underside of the hood/bonnet, but also underneath the filter unit ensuring the best possible separation of cold, fresh air from the heated air of the rest of the under-bonnet area.

The VWR intake uses only the highest quality materials, all built and hand-assembled in the UK. As a ram air style intake, it draws cold, dense air directly from the front edge of the front panel under the bonnet's leading edge. Meanwhile, the filter shield ensures that intake air is principally drawn from outside the engine bay not the hot air from the engine bay that can affect non-enclosed intake designs without a well-designed heat shield.

SOUND QUALITY

As a race-bred intake system, you can hear the rich induction noise as soon as you first accelerate hard. With the increased airflow from this system, you will also not miss the sound of the diverter valve opening when you lift between gears. However volume levels are well-contained, and the sound quality is music to the ears of any enthusiastic driver!

MORE INFORMATION

Please note that non-enclosed air intakes such as this VWR Cup Edition Intake are not legal for use in some countries/US states. For these markets, either the forthcoming VWR Full Intake system or the VWR Panel Air Filter will be ideal.

Couldn't put Ida in the Middle down until the end
Format: Hardcover
Ida in the Middle so vividly captures the point of view of a girl not only sorting out feeling like and being treated like an outsider in a new school, but her relationship with her immigrant parents, her younger and older sister (she is in the middle), and her growing awareness of her family's community in the Middle East. It is is warm novel of feelings, friendship, and the magic transport to the "Its A Wonderful Life" alternate reality of what being in 8th grade would be like if her family had stayed in the village where her grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins still live. It is also a novel, like those set in other wartimes, that exposes hard realities. Descriptions of her alternative private school in the US and watching the "Arabs Got Talent" music competition on TV have some of sly wit of Where'd You Go, Bernadette, but the learning that Ida and the reader develop about both the community ties and the danger and dehumanization of checkpoints, home demolitions, and raids takes the book to another level of complexity and empathy for difficult circumstances and choices. Throughout, Ida's viewpoint as a 13-year-old trying to understand the world around her is fresh and appealing. She proves to be an unexpectedly level-headed protagonist as the plot carries her into danger and into new readiness for action. Through the course of the novel, both the reader's and Ida's empathy grows for the desperate situation of Palestinian farmers whose land is under siege (and of all living under occupation), for parents' struggle over the choice to remain out of the country, and for the daily decisions to claim joy and pleasure even if it entails contradictions. Ida left me energized and inspired, and ready to gift this book to the middle-grade kids I know, and also to my teacher friends who keep books in their classrooms for students to read.

A "magical" story of Palestinian life in the West Bank
Format: Hardcover
This young adult novel by Nora Lester Murad focuses on the quandary of a Palestinian-American teenager, Ida, who is learning about American culture while her extended family in the West Bank must cope with Israel’s many policies that discriminate against Palestinians. As Ida ponders how to fit in better at her school and a topic for a school assignment, she is magically transported to the land of her ancestors where she soon finds herself in a difficult situation. The novel explores several aspects of these policies, including the demolition of a friend’s home due to her family’s inability to get a construction permit. In between these difficult situations, there are some twists and turns that remind the reader of the importance of family and friends. This novel will help to validate the experiences of Palestinian youth who are "caught in the middle" like Ida. Readers of all ages will gain new insights into conditions for Palestinians living in the West Bank and how these pressures impact the daily lives and futures of Palestinian youth. (A teacher’s guide is available, which will be especially helpful for those unfamiliar with the situations described in Ida in the Middle. )

A must-read to shed light on the experiences of Palestinian-American children
Format: Hardcover
I picked up this book not knowing what to expect. What I ended up with was a rich and beautiful telling of the experiences of a young Palestinian-American girl who is trying to find her voice in a world that misunderstands and silences her. She is the hero that so many students need to hear about. Ida in the Middle beautifully weaves history, culture, and hope together for an empowering story of justice.

We are past due for Palestinian American heroines!
Format: Hardcover
Such an engaging read for this adult. How many books for older children have a Palestinian American main character as engaging as Ida? Not since Amani in "The Shepherd's Granddaughter" by Anne Laurel Carter (2010) or Liyana in "Habibi" by Naomi Shihab Nye (1997). We need diverse books and MORE of them. They are good food for discussion.

The Struggle to Belong
Format: Hardcover
Ida in the Middle is a must-read for anyone who cares about justice for Palestinians in Palestine, in the USA, and everywhere else. Author Nora Lester Murad gives us a protagonist struggling to find her place in a world that often denies her dignity. Her struggle is everyone’s struggle, especially in these turbulent times.
