We've cut it into spindles of 1 3 4" across and 8" long. The grain on this piece is long and straight, with swirls around small and infrequent burl buds. There is a tiny sliver of creamy beige sapwood present along two edges. We have air dried this Texas Ebony log for 5+ years. Moisture content is 10 12%. Janka hardness is 2820 lbf. Density is

Texas Ebony Block TE-558 1.75" x 1.75" x 8" 1.2 lbs. This is a beautiful piece of Texas Ebony heartwood. We've cut it into spindles of 1 3/4" across and 8" long. The grain on this piece is long and straight, with swirls around small and infrequent burl buds. There is a tiny sliver of creamy beige sapwood present along two edges. We have air-dried this Texas Ebony log for 5+ years. Moisture content is 10-12%. Janka hardness is 2820 lbf. Density is 80 lb/ft3. This wood is very dense and hard, one of the hardest available in North America. The finished products are exquisite. This block has some very minor end-grain checking (see close-up photo). |

What a wonderful mystery, a grand heroine who is polishing her detective skills.
All the pomp of the gentile classes at their play. Murders, theft, and dogs in the highlands, what could be better?

Promising start to new mystery series.
Format: Kindle
Lady Persephone "Poppy" Proudfoot attends a house party at an estate, meets some American actors, and tries to solve the murder of a stranger to the village whose body is discovered by the lake. The first in a series, this book is a quick read with a plot that moves along, although some of the large cast of characters seem superfluous (e.g., the American visitors). Poppy is a widow, a law-school graduate (in the 1920s!), and ran a hospital for wounded soldiers during WW1, so an interesting character to read about. A promising beginning to the series and I look forward to the next book. Thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for the eARC.
