Fleur de Lis Block PrintThis is an original Papillon Press design inspired by historical endpapers and wallpapers. Designs like this were called Papiers Dominots, or Domino Papers. France was an active producer of these patterned papers, which were used as end sheets in books, coverings for books, and wallpaper. Papers like this would be printed one at a time on a hand press on hand carved wooden blocks. We print each of them one by one with ink, then add a metallic powder

This is an original Papillon Press design...

inspired by historical endpapers and wallpapers. Designs like this were called Papiers Dominotés, or Domino Papers. France was an active producer of these patterned papers, which were used as end sheets in books, coverings for books, and wallpaper. Papers like this would be printed one at a time on a hand press on hand-carved wooden blocks. We print each of them one by one with ink, then add a metallic powder brushed on top to the gold ones.

This was designed in collaboration with James T. Owens, III.

The white ones are printed on 100% cotton paper from Khadi Papers in India, handmade from recycled garment industry offcuts. Read more about our materials.

Prints are hand printed on our printing press from 1910 in our studio.

sweet picture book read

I LOVE DAD WITH THE VERY HUNGRY CATERPILLAR is a sweet book of love, written from the perspective of a child to their father. The book uses imagery from other Eric Carle books alongside simple language to describe the connection between father and child, such as "Dad... You are easy to talk to... and you're fun to play with." Ellipses break up sentences across multiple pages, with animals that suit each phrase pictured as parent and child. What I loved: This is a cute and simple read that would be a great gift for a new father or father of a young child, as they can share it together. The short length of the book works well for infants and toddlers, as each page only has a few words. The illustrations are simple, borrowing from past Eric Carle books to maintain his style, and showing the animals most related to the text (for instance, on the page with "but you're still cool" it features polar bears) on a white background. This is a simple style that will work well for little ones. The very hungry caterpillar appears on each page, almost hidden and could make for a fun and easy search for toddlers. Final verdict: Overall, this is a sweet picture book that would make a great gift for new fathers or fathers with young children.
