Description:

The Afterglow of Industry brings together photographs from a ten-year project in which artist Chris Corson-Scott repeatedly travelled the extent of Aotearoa New Zealand, seeking out unknown, or remote sites which illuminate our dysfunctional present. Following this, several years were spent researching and writing on each of the 79 photographs featured in this book. In these texts, colonial and industrial histories weave in and out of geology, pre- European Mori history, outside forces from the United States and Europe, and contemporary issues like privatisation, asset sales, the New Zealand housing crisis, and the country's rebranding as a 'clean & green' tourist destination.

Similar to the collapse of America's industrial Midwest, New Zealand has also experienced the whiplash of industry vanishing. Here though, this has been complicated by much of this industry first emerging in conjunction with European colonization. Corson-Scott's work focuses on these tensions, particularly in Te Waipounamu South Island, where the regions of the West Coast and Otago see industrial remnants contrasted with vast and complex landscapes. From these areas come images of freezing works on sacred rivers, contested mining projects, dwellings of 19th century Chinese miners, gold processing plants still contaminated more than a century later, floods of acid mine drainage, and the demolition of factories which once built the country's modern infrastructure. Elsewhere, on a remote sandspit is one of history's largest whale strandings, industrial spaces are repurposed by artists, controversial hydroelectric schemes divert rivers, ancient for

Wow!
Format: Kindle
I choose my rating because the art is so cool! Each frame brought a unique angle and showed the brilliance of color and texture! Also, I do have great memories of this movie. The surprise and fun it brought. Also Luke’s point of view was quite interesting. This was a remarkable read, however I skipped some parts more quickly than others. Enjoyed the story in this medium!

Whatever…
Format: Paperback
The worst in the series until they come out with a Rise of Skywalker one… heaven forbid! Still, decent art. Better than the actual movie. 😂

It is not so accurate.
Format: Paperback
Well, this is feedback by my son. My son loves Star Wars and I bought it for him and he read it almost immediately! I knew he would love it, and he did! He loved the artwork and the way the author drew the characters. But he didn’t like one thing. Here’s what my son said: I don’t like how they cut a lot of stuff out from the movie and made it short. They cut a lot of FN-2187s fight with phasma. And I don’t like how the author cut the battle on Crait very short! But, then again, the story was very accurate to the movie.” I know many people like Star Wars, but if your planning on buying this comic, I would think twice. It leaves out some pretty big parts of the movie.I think this deserved four stars.

Good Christmas gift for family members.
Format: Paperback
I got this as a small gift for a fellow Star Wars fan in my family for the holidays. We both like chatting it up when it comes to Star Wars and I thought this graphic novel would do the trick for a small gift. It was great!! The illustrations are detailed and follow the movie plot closely which is good.

Worth every penny
Format: Paperback
Great adaptation. Art is outstanding, story is true to the film but with added depth and insight. Really nice book. My kid loves it, thumbs through it almost every day and we’ve already read through it together a bunch of times.
