A West Coast gangsta rap essential, Straight Checkn 'Em (1991) finds Compton’s Most Wanted at their grittiest, delivering hard-hitting street tales and bass-heavy beats straight from the heart of early ‘90s Los Angeles. Led by MC Eiht, the group’s sophomore album cemented their status alongside N.W.A. and Ice-T, blending funk-infused production with raw, unfiltered lyricism. Tracks like Growin’ Up in the Hood (featured in Boyz n the Hood) and They Still Gafflin’ paint a vivid picture of urban struggle, survival, and the realities of life in Compton.
