Where ink drops through the top layer of hand woodblock printing over 8 to 12 printings across a month, the aged cotton beneath reveals the Lotus Storm pattern - a pale cream ground in the upper right scattered with vivid red, teal-green and pink paint-splash marks, like a storm breaking over open sky. The lower two-thirds are dense and moody - warm copper-orange on the left merging into a rich field of dark teal, burgundy-plum and olive dot-forms across the centre and right. And ghosting through the warm ground on the lower left, two exquisite outlined lotus flower motifs in delicate pink line-work - serene and precise against the surrounding storm. Each is entirely unrepeatable.

The Blue Iris linen-cotton backing echoes the deep teal and slate tones of the lower ground, grounding the warm copper and cream of the front with a deep, considered calm. A 1cm flat flange frames the cover, finished with quiet precision.
