COMP Cams offers a simple but effective solution to this problem - a thin, hardened steel alloy seat which will not only protect the head and shim but also locate and hold the spring in place. Previously, this part has been available only in a cup form with the retaining portion being on the outside of the part. This required that the head be machined a great deal to accept this cup so COMP now offers an I.D. locator with the locating shoulder on the inside, as well as the spring cup. Tough dog toy that's held up through multiple washes! My dogs love the squeaker. They are not destructive chewers so I can't really say how it would hold up with that kind of dog though.

Squeaker inside toy breaks after 2 days

Bought for my 8 lb chihuahua for Christmas. I have 3 little girls. The youngest loves her toys and of course she took this one over immediately. She just loved everything about it. The material on the gator is amazingly durable and I believe would hold up for a good while. The squeaker inside the toy however, broke after 2 days of my girl playing with it. It's now a noiseless toy that she does not like too much as it does not squeak because it only had the one squeaker in it.
I would recommend that 2 squeakers be inserted into this gator. I would not purchase again due to the longevity of the squeaker...only lasted 2 days.

My dog loves these toys.

Not a huge toy, nor is my dog. But we have lots of goDog toys. Practically indestructible and my dog likes to carry these in his mouth and bring them onto the foot of our bed. Brilliant colors and good squeaker but my dog is afraid of the squeak. Fair value for cost.
