DESCRIPTION: Step back into the glamour of the Jazz Age with this stunning 1980s Art Deco-inspired clutch. Featuring intricate scalloped and geometric beadwork in luxe gold and bold black, this piece is pure sophistication. The classic kiss-lock closure adds a touch of timeless elegance, while the shimmering beads make it a true statement accessory. Perfect for pairing with flapper-style dresses or elevating any formal ensemble.
HISTORY: Evening bags and clutches trace their lineage to the modest pouches of the 18th century, evolving over time into the refined accessories we recognize today. Their popularity surged in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, as women’s fashion embraced greater elegance and complexity, necessitating smaller, more sophisticated carriers for personal essentials. These pieces often showcased opulent materials—silk, satin, and velvet—adorned with beads, metallic threads, and intricate embroidery. Each design reflected the artistry and extravagance of its era, transforming the evening bag from a mere utility into a symbol of style and social grace.
DATE: Circa 1980s
CONDITION: This item is in overall excellent, gently worn, vintage exterior condition. The chain needs to be replaced and I would call it well-worn visually. It is quite tarnished in a few places more than others and a few links are deformed. With that said it is visual wear only and doesn't impede on the usage of the strap. The beading is pretty much fully intact with the exception of a few beads at the bottom. It is near impossible to see unless examining up close. The interior has some obvious wear as well.
