Moppity Tristis Shiraz 2021 is a landmark wine — Moppity’s first Canberra Region Shiraz, crafted from a single high-elevation vineyard on the Barton Highway in Murumbateman, and a compelling demonstration of the region’s ability to produce world-class, cool-climate Shiraz. Planted with clones 1127 and BVRC30 propagated from Moppity’s finest Hilltops Shiraz blocks — the same clones used for Escalier and Reserve — the fruit was hand-picked by family and friends after a cool, long ripening season at 13 Baume, processed into 1.5 tonne open fermenters with 30% whole-bunches and balance whole berries, and matured for 10 months in 35% new French puncheons. Beautifully bright and fragrant — red and blue berries, ripe cherries, black plums, and hints of Asian spice on the nose; medium-bodied with a silky mouthfeel and aromatic floral notes on the palate; a long finish with supple, well-integrated tannins. A great beginning for Moppity in the Canberra Region.

Tasting Notes

Appearance

Bright, vibrant ruby — the fresh, luminous colour of a single vineyard, cool-climate Canberra Region Shiraz from a high-elevation site in Murumbateman, with the clarity and definition that a cool, long ripening season and careful whole-bunch winemaking deliver.

Aroma

Beautifully bright and fragrant — red and blue berries, ripe cherries, and black plums, with hints of Asian spice and aromatic floral notes adding complexity and lift. The expressive, cool-climate bouquet of a Shiraz crafted from Moppity’s finest clone selections at high elevation.

Palate

Medium-bodied with a silky mouthfeel — red and blue berries dominating, with aromatic floral notes and spice adding complexity and depth. The cool-climate precision, fruit purity, and structural elegance of a single vineyard Canberra Region Shiraz made from 30% whole-bunches and matured in 35% new French puncheons.

Pairs With

A natural companion for roast lamb, duck, grilled salmon, mushroom dishes, and soft cheeses — Moppity Tristis Shiraz is equally rewarding now and will develop beautifully with cellaring. Single vineyard. Cool climate. Canberra Region at its finest.

Finish

Long and supple — well-integrated tannins providing a refined, elegant close that speaks to the quality of the high-elevation site, the cool ripening season, and the careful whole-bunch winemaking that defines Moppity Tristis.

Ball is heavy due to solid construction
Size: Large
Just received the large ball. Construction appears to be excellent and time will tell with my aggressive chewer. That being said I ordered the large because our Mini Goldendoodle loves playing with our daughter’s dog large ball. I may not have read description close enough but ball is solid and weighs a considerable amount. Our dog soon learned to pick it up but I’m just disappointed that it isn’t hollow like ones our daughter has.

Best dog toy for extremely aggressive chewers!!!
Size: Large
Absolutely a great dog toy for extremely aggressive chewers! I have a pig pitbull that loves to chew! He has chewed through every toy I have ever bought pretty much right after I give it to him. This thing is durable he hasn’t made a hole or a tear in it yet and he hasn’t made went to town on it when I first gave it to him! I’m impressed!

Kong Works Well...
Size: Medium
Our German shepherd chews every ball we've ever purchased. The other balls are easier to throw for this 75yr old lady. But this Kong ball will out live any other ball I've ever gotten him. A tennis ball doesn't last an hour. Some other name brands takes him a full day to chew up. So far he's tried but gets nowhere with his new Kong. I seriously believe he just might not be able to chew this one up. Thanks Kong. I got the medium and it's a large ball.
