Description:
A highly illustrated study of the battle of Malplaquet, the last and bloodiest of Marlborough's victories in the 18th century War of the Spanish Succession.
In 1709, after eight years of war, France was on her knees. There was not enough money left in the treasury to pay, equip or feed the army and a bad harvest led to starvation throughout the kingdom. Circumstances had worsened to the point that King Louis XIV was forced to offer to end the War of Spanish Succession on humiliating terms for his country. However, the allied powers Britain, the Dutch Republic and the Holy Roman Empire refused Louis' offer, believing that one more successful campaign would utterly destroy French power.
This book examines the campaign of 1709, culminating in the battle of Malplaquet, which would prove Louis' enemies disastrously wrong. Led by the Duke of Marlborough and Prince Eugene of Savoy, the allied armies achieved a tactical victory but it was a hollow one. The allies suffered 23,000 casualties to the French 11,000 in what was the bloodiest battle of the 18th century. The scale of casualties shocked Europe and led to a reversal of fortunes, with the dismissal of Marlborough and a newly confident King Louis resolving to fight on. When the war finally ended, it did so on terms favourable to France.
In this illustrated title, Simon MacDowall examines the campaign in full and shows how, though it is generally accepted that Marlborough was never defeated, the Battle of Malplaquet was ultimately a French strategic victory.

Very impressed with toy
I love these, my family loves these and the cats love these. The only one who doesn't pay it any attention is the one it was intended for. Bought for our dog who has an obsession for stealing napkins or tissues or paper and eating it, we thought its be clever to get this squeaky newspaper toy for him to steal and have a field day with. It resembles the front page of every newspaper I have ever seen and the crinkle is superb, yet no dice. He sniffs it and turns his nose up at it. Our next goal is to wrap his favorite treat inside it and have him find it so then the toy is scented as his favorite treat. Other than that, this pack comes with 3 individual paper like crinkle toys and the imagery and words are clearly seen on it. Nothing is smudged or missing. Very impressed actually!

Not indestructible
The dog destroyed it in under 3 minutes. I mean he destroyed it and I am unable to receive a refund because I don’t have a product to return. Destroyed because it is a cheap piece of garbage.

Nice but didn’t suit my dog
My new adult dog, a Yorkie, doesn’t care for squeaky toys. He like the crinkling sound, and he likes to shred paper and then eat it. That I why I bought this toy. He liked it, but when he realized that it wouldn’t shred like paper (and thus he couldn’t eat it), he list interest. The toy is fine, but it gets 4 stars because my dog gave up on it so quickly.
