When to Replace
- Compressor or fan motor fails to start.
- A humming sound is audible from the unit without the motor engaging.
- Existing capacitor shows physical signs of failure such as bulging, cracking, or leaking oil.
- Measured capacitance is outside the specified tolerance range.
Installation Tips
- Disconnect all electrical power to the unit before beginning work.
- Safely discharge the old capacitor by shorting the terminals with an insulated tool.
- Note the wire placement on the old capacitor's terminals (C, FAN, HERM) before disconnecting.
- The new capacitor's MFD rating must match the original.
- The new capacitor's voltage rating must be equal to or greater than the original.
