Desert rock legend Brant Bjork returns with Once Upon a Time in the Desert, a 2024 release that encapsulates the essence of the genre he helped pioneer.
Featuring the Brant Bjork Trio—Bjork on guitar and vocals, Mario Lalli on bass, and Ryan Güt on drums—this album delivers a heavy, fluid groove with the warm, hypnotic riffs that define the California desert sound. Recorded at Donner and Blitzen Studios in Crestline, California, and co-produced by Bjork and Lalli, the album is raw, organic, and drenched in rock & roll attitude.
From the laid-back swagger of Backin’ the Daze to the psychedelic-tinged Sunshine (is makin' love to your mind), the record flows effortlessly, blending bluesy melodies with a hypnotic, sun-soaked atmosphere. Tracks like Rock and Roll in the Dirt and Do You Got Some Fire showcase Bjork’s signature fusion of groove and grit, offering an immersive ride through the desert rock landscape.
This album is available in multiple formats, including digital, standard black vinyl, limited edition “Cactus Bloom Purple” vinyl, and a deluxe cassette edition. Whether you’re a longtime fan of Kyuss-era desert rock or new to the scene, Once Upon a Time in the Desert is an essential listen.
