What none of these people knew was that Mala Rivka Kizel had been born into a large orthodox Jewish family in Warsaw, Poland, in 1926. When Dutch journalist Pieter van Os stumbled upon Mala's story, he set out to revive the world through which she had made her way from war-ravaged middle Europe to the nascent state of Israel before finally settling in the Netherlands. With her memoir and their interviews as guide, Van Os physically retraced Mala's steps, stopping in at local archives and remote villages, searching for anyone who might have known or helped her seventy-five years before.
At times reading like an erudite detective story, this poignant, rich book is an engrossing meditation on what drives us to fear the 'other', and what in turn might allow us to feel compassion for them.

Easy to install, very tough!

Seriously, scoring these shelf stands for $30 feels like an absolute steal! Four chunky wood boards with metal T-brackets that actually feel substantial - way sturdier than those flimsy IKEA ones I used to have. My old cheapo stands warped after half a year, but these hold up like a champ - I've got like 15 heavy textbooks stacked on them right now.
Love the little details too: rounded edges so you won't scrape your hands, and rubber grip strips on the bottom. They look legit fancy in my living room as bookshelves and even class up my kitchen herb garden. My friend thought they were some high-end designer furniture! Honestly, the craftsmanship at this price puts my old $60 wooden shelves to shame. Already told my DIY group chat about these - trust me, you can't go wrong!

There are better floating shelves

Doesn’t feel very sturdy like other floating shelves I’ve bought, and they slant a little. The anchors and screws that it came with all broke so we had to get our own for it to feel more secure on the wall, but still feels wobbly. Overall, it looks good on the wall after the fact, but won’t be adding too much weight on it.
