Tasting Notes

Scotchmans Hill Chardonnay 2024 Bellarine Peninsula delivers complexity and vibrancy with nectarine, grapefruit and creamy oak, showcasing cool-climate elegance with tremendous drive and 6-8 year cellaring potential.

Appearance

Pale gold with brilliant clarity and a subtle green tinge, displaying excellent luminosity that reflects the wine's cool-climate origins and meticulous winemaking from the Bellarine Peninsula's basalt-derived soils.

Aroma

Complex and lively aromatics of ripe nectarine and zesty grapefruit dominate the nose, beautifully rounded out by creamy lees-derived notes and subtle nutty oak characters. The bouquet is inviting and expressive, showcasing elegant integration between pure fruit expression and carefully selected French oak influence.

Palate

Fresh and vibrant on entry with a distinctive mineral edge that reflects the unique Bellarine Peninsula terroir. White peach and grapefruit flavours provide bright fruit intensity, transitioning seamlessly to a savoury mid-palate that adds depth and complexity. The finish features cashew nut oak notes that are beautifully integrated, providing structure and length. Tremendous drive and backbone suggest this wine will reward cellaring over the next 6 to 8 years, developing further richness and textural complexity with age.

Pairs With

This versatile Chardonnay pairs beautifully with grilled prawns and scallops, roasted chicken with herbs, creamy lobster pasta, pan-seared fish with beurre blanc, soft triple-cream cheeses, pork tenderloin with apple, or wild mushroom risotto.

Dr. G.
Format: Paperback
Jesse Graves (a.k.a. "Dr. G.") is one of my professors at East Tennessee State University. Not only is he a great teacher, he is a very talented poet. I would recommend his work to anyone! Anyone that does not like his work probably just failed his class. :p

Incredibly Prescient -- Touches On The Major Trends Of Our Times
Format: Hardcover
I was blown away by the fact that the author started writing this book a couple of years ago, before artificial intelligence was in the news, and before the topic and trend of loneliness became so prevalent. The clairvoyance is uncanny and the storyline, while fictional, is totally believable given what's going on in our world today. This is why the novel almost reads like nonfiction, but the plotline carries you forward like a fictional thriller. I audibly gasped, "Holy crap" during the plot twist at the end of the book. Truly a work of art, there is no doubt that this will be adapted for either a movie or a series.

Deeply human, yet visionary
Format: Kindle
This book takes a thoughtful approach to the notion of loneliness in the faces of AI and the many robotic companions already in development or on the market.

Compelling story, beautifully written
Format: Kindle
Loneliness & Company was a fantastic read. In a truly novel take and an incredibly fun read, Charlee Dyroff confronts both the growing endemic of loneliness and the looming threat of AI, pushing us subtly to think deeply and thoughtfully about the implications of both. More than that though, Loneliness & Company is beautifully written, populated by great characters and is driven forward with a compelling, narrative. Its the first book in a very long while that I couldn't wait to get back to. Definitely would give this my strongest recommendation.

3.5
Format: Hardcover
This is a smart book, an interesting book but it was hard for me to read as the style was more technical/detached than i like. It worked for the story but not for the kind of reader I am. It is worth the read though despite this 3.5
