Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death in both men and women in the United States, and yet many of the risk factors for developing cardiovascular disease can be avoided or reduced. What is Cardiometabolic Risk?
Cardiometabolic risk includes disorders related to obesity and insulin resistance, which can lead to type 2 diabetes and/or heart disease. Risk factors usually appear in a cluster; when one risk factor is present, you should check for others too. According to the American Diabetes Association, diabetic people with higher blood pressure and cholesterol are more likely to be obese. BLOOD SPOT TESTING
Dried blood spot is a form of collection where patients place blood drops on a filter card after a finger prick with a lancet. Once dry, blood spot cards are extremely stable for shipment and storage, and the dried blood format offers excellent correlation with serum tests.
