Sonic Youth’s ninth studio album, Washing Machine, is a bold and immersive double LP that marked a creative resurgence for the legendary experimental rock band.
Released in 1995 via DGC Records, the album trades in some of the compactness of their early-'90s work for a return to sprawling, exploratory compositions, combining noise, melody, and improvisation with stunning precision. Recorded at Easley Studios in Memphis and co-produced with John Siket, this album reasserts the band’s innovative spirit with a mix of tightly structured songs and open-ended sonic journeys.
Highlights include the 20-minute epic “The Diamond Sea”, Sonic Youth’s longest studio track to date, and standout cuts like “Becuz” and “Washing Machine”, which demonstrate the band’s signature guitar interplay, abstract lyrics, and genre-defying textures. A must-have for fans of alternative and experimental rock, this limited double vinyl edition captures Sonic Youth at their most fearless and inventive—a worthy successor to Daydream Nation and a defining entry in their catalog. Add this essential piece of ‘90s avant-rock to your vinyl collection today.
