Alder Block Ald55 2.6" x 2.7" x 8" 0.9 lbs. Here's a moderately spalted spindle of Red Alder. The wood is an overall peachy-brown color with warm undertones of red and yellow. There are lines of black spalting that highlight and sometimes cross-cut the grain. This one has one edge with bark or wane -- it's shallow and will turn off as you bring the block to round. Alder tends to have a lot of color variation throughout, so please browse the photos to get a sense of this particular piece's character. This is moderately spalted piece of Red Alder. To achieve this degree of spalting, the wood does give up a bit of density and strength. Turning this block to achieve a good finish without tearout will require sharp tools and a light touch. Fully air-dried to 10-12% moisture content. This piece has a minor crack on one end, as shown in the close-up photo. You may want to stabilize this with a few drops of CA glue prior to turning. About the Tree This Red Alder tree lived a long and healthy life on San Juan Island, Washington. It died naturally and toppled over, probably during one of the wind storms which frequently sweep across the island. It rested on the ground in the forest for a time, allowing the local mushrooms to colonize and spalt the wood. Spalting is highly variable across the tree. Not all pieces have spalting, but quite a few have black-line and zone spalting that enhance this already-beautiful wood. You'll enjoy the projects you create from this wood! |

Total Game Changer for Your Desk Space!
Color: Black, Color: Black
I decided to finally foray into the desk mat space, and my only regret is not doing this sooner. This particular mat is not only an instant upgrade, visually, for my desk, but also gives me a convenient place to tuck away those couple papers/cards I always need to have within reach.
It goes without saying, my favorite part of this is the high quality wireless charging piece. Aside from eliminating an extra cord, it helps minimize the clutter and lets me charge my phone AND AirPods simultaneously.
This is the first of many I will be purchasing, as it is the PERFECT gift for anyone with a desk.

Honestly, this is pretty nice!
Color: Black, Color: Black
At first I was a little disappointed in the design of this device because the mat and the charger are two separate pieces; but the magnet that is connecting them together is pretty strong, so I ended up not minding it. The magnet in the charger is pretty strong too, though, so the whole thing tends to lift up when you pick up your phone - this is my first MagSafe charger, so perhaps that is standard with these, I wouldn't know.
As you can see in the picture, this isn't your standard mouse pad. It's leather on one side and felt on the other (you can pick which side you want to face up, which is a nice design feature, I suppose). It's smooth and wipes off easily but really collects fingerprints and hairs.
It's also a good size. Not too big, not too small. I was a little worried because it's smaller than my older mousepad but I haven't suffered for it. I may even prefer this smaller size if I'm being honest.
I'm not sure if I like the feeling of the leather side against my arm/wrist, though. The mouse has no problem reading it but it's just not very soft. I do notoriously dislike change though so maybe that's just a me problem LOL.
All in all I'm happy with this and would suggest it!
