DESCRIPTION:  Vintage vibes, bold graphics, and a story in every scratch. This John Player’s tobacco tin set is more than décor—it’s a piece of history with serious style cred. Perfect for collectors or anyone who loves a touch of retro charm. Weathered in all the right ways, they’re brimming with charm inside and out. Perfect as a curated gift set or as statement décor, these collectible tins aren’t just relics—they’re conversation starters, celebrating the artistry and culture of classic branding with a stylish edge.

HISTORY: John Player & Sons, established in Nottingham in 1877, became one of Britain’s most prominent tobacco manufacturers, with its “Navy Cut” brand achieving iconic status. Distinguished by the sailor emblem, Navy Cut reflected the company’s deep association with maritime heritage and British naval tradition. These tins, often crafted for durability and reuse, were as much a part of consumer culture as the tobacco they contained—objects of everyday life that now serve as collectible relics of a bygone era. The “Gold Leaf” designation signified a premium blend, underscoring Player’s commitment to quality. Today, these pieces stand as tangible reminders of mid-20th-century advertising, craftsmanship, and the social norms of an age when smoking was woven into daily life.

Great read
Format: Kindle
I really like this one. Even though the Poppy character is a bit stubborn and won’t accept she is not really a detective, yet. The rest of the characters and plot delightful. I’m already looking forward to the next one.

Enjoyable

It is a good read. I enjoy the leafing characters. The plot was well done. But it could use a bit of better editing. There were several mistakes.

as an addition to the Scottish Ladies Detective agency, a new lady sleuth
Format: Kindle
What a wonderful mystery, a grand heroine who is polishing her detective skills. All the pomp of the gentile classes at their play. Murders, theft, and dogs in the highlands, what could be better? Recommend

Promising start to new mystery series.
Format: Kindle
Lady Persephone "Poppy" Proudfoot attends a house party at an estate, meets some American actors, and tries to solve the murder of a stranger to the village whose body is discovered by the lake. The first in a series, this book is a quick read with a plot that moves along, although some of the large cast of characters seem superfluous (e.g., the American visitors). Poppy is a widow, a law-school graduate (in the 1920s!), and ran a hospital for wounded soldiers during WW1, so an interesting character to read about. A promising beginning to the series and I look forward to the next book. Thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for the eARC.
